Diamonds….they are more than just a girls best friend

Over the past couple of months I have tried a lot of soaps that were new to me. I am not sure the total number but probably 15+ different soaps. I also lathered them and used them as well. Many of them were great and I would rate the scents very highly. Some had poor scents or just scents that didn’t work for my nose. On Saturday night I had the absolute pleasure of using a soap that’s scent blew my mind……

Razor : Gillette Aristocrat

Blade : Polsilver SI

Soap : Barrister & Mann DIAMOND

Brush : Muhle STF

Balm : Barberry Coast Havana

Yes, the soap I used was Diamond by Barrister and Mann. And yes that is a picture of its lather after 3 passes. I will get into the performance in a minute. First I have to talk about the scent. Here is how it is described on the B&M site ‘We blended notes of freshly cut grass, stadium soil, beer, leather, pine, cedar, popcorn, and caramel to conjure the unforgettable experience of attending a big league game during every shave.’ To me that is pretty bang on. I described it after I raved about it on a Facebook group to a friend like this. It’s the smell you would get if you were standing in the batters box, wooden bat in hand, on the field from the movie ‘Field of dreams’ right after the lawn was watered and the base paths raked. You get a hint of the fans filling up the stands with popcorn and possibly caramel corn. To me this scent was knocked out of the park. PUN INTENDED. It is a Home Run from William to say the least. Sorry, I’ll stop with the puns. In my haste I forgot to get a shot of the whole setup…..oh, well. I think you will all appreciate the lather porn.

The performance was exceptional as usual from B&M and I cannot wait to use it again. I need to get a full tub of this stuff! Overall it was an awesome shave and once again the Havana was the perfect finish to a great shave.

On Sunday I used Lavanille for the first time. The scent is nice but not as great to my nose as Diamond. I will have to use this one again as well, but not after using Diamond. I think the scent is better than I give it credit for.

sotdmay19 Razor : EJ Head /iKon Bulldog Handle

Blade : Polsilver SI

Soap : Barrister and Mann Lavanille

Brush : Plisson Synthetic

Aftershave : Mentholated Cherry Tobacco

Balm : The Barberry Coast Havana ASB

Another great performance by B&M…..not that I was surprised. The razor/handle combo paired with a Polsilver blade made short work of my stubble and left me with a DFS shave. The Plisson whipped up the lather so easy on my face. I am enjoying this brush again after putting it away for a couple of months. Again I finished off the shave with Havana Balm, but this time I also splashed on some mentholated Cherry Tobacco aftershave! What a nice combo. A very pleasant shave and I am very keen to give this soap another go as I know a lot of guys really love this scent. sotdmay19-2

Well, this mornings shave was with yet another Barrister and Mann Soap. However it was with a soap I have had for a while. Nocturne! This is a seasonal scent and I believe it is a vegan soap. this soap is the most different to my nose of all the Barrister and Mann soaps I have tried. By different I mean fruity. It smells to me like really nice shampoo. It has apple and kind of  smells like the gift shop at an apple orchard. However it really reminds me of a shampoo my wife has used and I really love the scent…..it is just so different from the rest of B&Ms offerings.

Razor : Gillette Aristocrat

Blade : Polsilver SI

Preshave : Proraso Green

Soap : Barrister and Mann Nocturne

Brush : Semogue IB LE

Aftershave : The Barberry Coast Bay Rum + Proraso Green

The vegan formula does nothing to change the awesome performance from this artisans soaps. Just plain stellar! The ‘Crat with a Polsilver practically has the hair on my face begging for mercy. I used the Proraso green preshave just for the little menthol kick on this warm morning. It really felt great. The Semogue Boar was awesome. I will say I often overlook this brush for the SOC or a fancy badger brush….but this brush holds its own with all of them.

Another awesome shave that was 99% BBS except one tiny spot. I made the Proraso green pre barba do some double duty and applied it post shave as a balm after splashing on the Bay Rum. I was surprised by how great the two scents worked together. A great way to start off the work week.

I’m looking forward to the next 3 days of barrister and Mann soaps.

Cheers and have a great week!!!
